The Short Answer
Headless 360 is Salesforce's new platform architecture that removes the requirement to use a browser UI to do work on Salesforce. Every capability - data, business logic, workflows, deployments, configuration - is now exposed as an API, MCP (Model Context Protocol) tool, or CLI command.
In plain terms: AI agents, external developer tools, and automated systems can now use Salesforce directly without anyone logging in and clicking through screens. It was announced at TrailblazerDX 2026 on April 15 and Salesforce called it one of the biggest platform changes in 25 years.
Why the Name "Headless"
In web architecture, the user interface is called the "head." A headless system is one where the head is removed and the underlying capabilities are exposed directly to whatever wants to use them - typically through APIs.
Salesforce has always had APIs, but most workflows historically went through the UI. Page layouts, Lightning components, Setup screens, list views - these were the primary surface for doing work. Headless 360 inverts that model. The UI is now optional. The platform itself is the product.
The Three Ways You Now Access Salesforce
1. APIs
Every platform capability is now callable through a standardized API request. An agent can retrieve a customer record, update a case status, trigger an approval, or query an opportunity without ever rendering a browser page. Salesforce has expanded its API coverage significantly to ensure parity between what the UI can do and what an API can do.
2. MCP Tools (Model Context Protocol)
MCP is the open standard that lets AI agents discover and invoke capabilities by name. Salesforce shipped 60+ MCP tools at TDX 2026, covering metadata management, data access, deployments, and configuration. An AI agent like Claude Code can connect to your Salesforce org and pull schemas, push changes, run tests, or generate code on demand.
3. CLI Commands
The Salesforce CLI now exposes terminal-level access to pull metadata (custom objects, fields, page layouts, permission sets) and push changes back. Developers can script their entire org against their local environment, integrate with CI/CD pipelines, and version control everything.

- AgentExchange is the unified marketplace combining 10,000+ AppExchange apps, 2,600+ Slack apps, and 1,000+ Agentforce agents and tools.
- Agent Fabric is the governance layer providing visibility, audit, and control across every agent, tool, and language model running in your org.
How Headless 360 Differs From Traditional Salesforce
The change is structural, not cosmetic. Here is the side-by-side:
- Access: traditional Salesforce was browser-first. Headless 360 is API-first, MCP-first, CLI-first. The UI is one of many surfaces, not the only one.
- Developer environment: traditional Salesforce locked you into Setup screens and the Developer Console. Headless 360 lets you work in Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, or any external IDE that supports MCP.

Headless 360 simply adds new ways to invoke and orchestrate what is already there.
